Suad Amiry

Writer and Architect

Suad Amiry is a Palestinian writer and architect, founder of the Riwaq Centre for Architectural Conservation in Ramallah, where she currently lives. Born in Damascus, she has lived in Amman, Damascus, Beirut, and Cairo. She studied architecture at the American University of Beirut and the University of Michigan, later specializing in Edinburgh. Today, she shuttles back and forth between Ramallah, New York, and Umbria. Amiry is the author of Sharon and My Mother-in-Law (2003), followed by Se questa è vita (2005), Niente sesso in città (2007), Murad Murad (2009), Golda Slept Here (2013), and Damasco (2016), all published by Feltrinelli. In 2020, she published Storia di un abito inglese e di una mucca ebrea with Mondadori. She was awarded the Viareggio-Versilia International Prize in 2004 and the Nonino Risit d’Aur Prize in 2014.
