Scientific evidence proves that the first years of life are fundamental for the child’s health and its intellectual and emotional development, with important consequences in adult life. Nati per Leggere (Born to Read) is a project promoted and implemented by the Cultural Association of Pediatricians (Associazione Culturale Pediatri), Italian Association of Librarians (Associazione Italiana Biblioteche), Centre for Child Health and Development (Centro per la Salute del Bambino). It offers reading activities to families with children up to 6 years old, as an important experience for the cognitive development of children and also as support for parents. The free activities organized by Nati per leggere are made possible thanks to the job of paediatricians, librarians, childcare workers and volunteers. The AIB and ACP Sardinia sections and the Regional Library Documentation Centre for Children promote and actively support the diffusion of the programme throughout Sardinia.
