Ofelia Prodan is a Romanian poetess. She is part of the generation of new poets who marked a turning point in the way of writing poetry in the Romanian literary scene of the years 2000. Ofelia made her publishing debut in 2007. Among her poetic collections we mention: Elefantul din patul meu (The elephant in my bed, 2007; Award for the Debut of the Writers’ Association in Bucharest, 2008; Award of the review Luceafărul, 2008; selected for the National Poetry Award Mihai Eminescu – First work, 2008); Ulise și jocul de șah (Ulysses and the chess game, 2011; finalist of the City of Sassari International Literary Prize, 2016); Călăuza (The guide, 2012; National Award Ion Minulescu, 2013); No exit, 2015 (National Award George Coșbuc, 2015; National Award Mircea Ivănescu, 2016). She figures in the anthology Voor de prijs van mijn mond which includes 12 of the most representative Romanian poets of the last 60 years. In Italy she published on the magazine Nuovi Argomenti, Atelier and L’immaginazione and she held some public reading cycles in Milan, Brescia, Rome and Sassari. She participated in the VIII edition (2013) of the “Napoli Cultural Classic” International Poetry and Prose Award, during which she won the first prize for the section POESIA (poetry) in a foreign language. She is a member of the Writers’ Union of Romania and of the PEN Club Romania. Elegie allucinogene (Hallucinogenic Elegies, Edizioni Forme Libere, 2019), translated by Mauro Barindi, is her first collection of poems published in Italy. She lives between Bucharest and Turin.
