MAN opened to the public in 1999, inside a building from the Twenties, former premises of the Provincial Institution, in the heart of the old town of Nuoro. The Museum is a permanent public institution, one of a kind in Sardinia, devoted to the study, preservation and promotion of modern and contemporary arts. The Museum pursues its cultural objectives through multiple activities, performed both inside the Museum and on the territory: from the realisation of exhibitions devoted to contemporary visual languages and to the history of art from the 19th to the 21st century, to the development of training, mediation and didactic programs for every target. The idea of an “open museum” is asserted: a permanent laboratory of artistic investigation and experimentation, a space of production and communication in which memory and innovation, research and divulgation, global thinking and local action can live together.
