The centre was founded in 1999 and it was inspired by the UNESCO Public Library Manifesto (more specifically, by the part dedicated to libraries for children and young adults). Managed by the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, it is a consulting, assistance and research institution which deals with the editorial production addressed to children, teenagers and young adults. It organises thematic bibliographic exhibitions which are available, on request, for free loans to libraries, schools, institutions and literary festivals. It promotes training programmes and refresher courses for librarians and cultural operators from all over Sardinia. It supports regional and national projects such as Nati per Leggere, Nati per la Musica, Xanadù, Biblioteca della Legalità and Mammalingua. It participates in book fairs as well as regional and national literary festivals involved in the promotion of literature for children, teenagers and young adults. It was awarded the Andersen Prize 2005 and the National Award “Nati per Leggere” 2014 for the best network project and for the best promotional commercial.
