British Council

The British Council is the UK’s international cultural relations organisation. Set up in 1934, we have been working in Italy since 1945 from our centres in Milan, Rome and Naples. We work closely with the British Embassy and Consulate offices and with the many Italian partners with whom we have developed relationships over the past decades: from local government and educational authorities to business and arts contacts. We are a leader in the field of English language teaching and an official centre for internationally-recognised British exams such as IELTS and Cambridge English Language Assessment (also known as University of Cambridge ESOL). The British Council also manages projects offering training and refresher courses for teachers. On the arts and culture side of our work, we collaborate with top talents and partners in Italy and the UK through our programme New Connections with the aim of developing high-quality, innovative events which can bring about closer cultural ties between our two countries.
